Dirty Harry:
The War Against Drugs

(1990)

Harry Callahan.  He doesn't break cases.  He smashes them.  And this time, Dirty Harry is out to smash a burgeoning drug-smuggling operation that threatens to bring the San Francisco P.D. to its knees.

Follow the trail of the ruthless drug kingpin.  Sweep the kingpin's criminal scum from the streets, sewers, and dockyards of San Francisco.  Crack the case and face the kingpin himself in a blazing showdown on Alcatraz.

It's an all-out war of good vs. bad.  Go ahead.  Make your day.

Info

Every Dirty Job That Comes Along
"Dirty Harry" is a traditional side-scrolling Nintendo game that incorporates several references to the film series.
There are LAWs rockets, harpoon guns, explosive remote-controlled cars, and chili dogs that restore a player's health (sans ketchup, of course).  The game uses digitized speech to deliver both of Harry's famous lines ("Make my day", "I know what you're thinking..."), and the showdown occurs on Alcatraz island.

"What the hell's he doing up there?!"

Naturally, the .44 Magnum is included, and Harry has the ability to draw the weapon without actually firing it.  This allows the player to walk around while aiming at punks- daring them to feel lucky.  The .44 also exhibits a recoil effect when fired.  Swell.

Shock treatment.

THE STREETS OF SAN FRANCISCO
The first level turns Harry loose on the city's streets.  The main objective is to navigate through the back alleys and sewers, in an attempt to reach a villain called The Toymaker.  Along the way, Harry must battle two sub-bosses while dealing with the assorted scum of the city.  Harry can enter most of the buildings to confiscate drugs or collect power-ups and weapons.  But aside from grabbing some extra ammunition, the buildings are largely secondary to completing the level.

CITY BY THE BAY
Harry cleans up the docks in the game's second- and shortest- level.  This is where Harry can pick up a spear gun, which is necessary to defeat the level's boss.

Harry meets the dockworkers' union.

ALCATRAZ ISLAND
There's no escape from Alcatraz once Harry arrives.  The final level features a small army trying to stop Harry, as well as three boss fights.  Harry must fight his way onto the island, scale its sheer cliffs, and make his way into the heart of the prison.  His ultimate goal is to put drug kingpin "The Anaconda" out of business- permanently.
